I guess I’m preordering a physical copy of Animal Crossing: New Horizons ⊟

Even the most fervent physical-only purists cannot deny the convenience of owning a digital copy for Animal Crossing. When the novelty of bug collection and fishing puns (”I caught a carp! I really seized the diem!”) wears off, and the gleam of another game catches your eye, you will still want to drop into your town/island without the hassle of juggling cartridges.

So the move for next month was always to cop the eShop version of Animal Crossing: New Horizons. Man plans, and God laughs. Target now offers a preorder bundle for the Switch game that includes an journal I must have:

“Soft, smooth vegan leather cover with lined pages and 2020 calendar containing key character birthdays to help you celebrate your favorite Animal Crossing characters! While supplies last.”

The journal appears wild basic, like something you could buy sans-branding for less than $10 in Target’s own aisles. But it’s a rare preorder bonus I can imagine using, whether to mark in-game events, or track stalk market trends, or list my grievances with rude villagers. Keep an eye out for a Planner Club review!

Space Invaders Invincible Collection is here to fill an important retro gaming gap ⊟

It’s Space Invaders! It’s one of the primordial Video Games (and one that remains fun and exciting) and it’s not yet on Switch. I have it on a keychain, but not on Switch. The upcoming Invincible Collection looks like a great way to get it, too, with a bunch of weird sequels and variants including the Very Important Space Invaders Extreme.

If you want to pay an extra $100 or so, you can get three more games, plus an art book, cards, a bag, and a Space Invaders-themed board game, in the Special Edition. Do I have enough of an interest in Space Invaders to buy a $150 limited edition from Japan? I kind of hope not!

Joys be thine! It’s our holiday?? special?? And our The Game Awards special? Why not! It’s been so long since we chatted that we go… all… over the place, accidentally creating a cinematic universe in the process. I forgot to take detailed show notes too, so here’s some!

We love you! Enjoy this rambling, weirdly introspective podcast.

StarFox 2, Crystalis and more on Nintendo Switch Online

On December 12, North American Switch Online users will get free access to four more Super Nintendo games (StarFox 2, Super Punch-Out!!, Kirby Super Star, and Breath of Fire 2) and two more NES games (Crystalis and Journey to Silius).

Here’s why this rules:

  1. It’s more games, which is just basically a good thing
  2. StarFox 2 was previously exclusive to the SNES Classic
  3. These games are all pretty good, and Kirby Super Star is going to be amazing with online multiplayer
  4. Hey look everyone, the classic game releases aren’t dead!
